List all the reasons you had for not keeping your promise. I asked my client.

She started sharing:

“I was tired, didn’t know who to call, what they would say, if they were the right people, if it would be weird if I called if I had enough energy, I should take care of myself, it’s okay I already called some, and on and on the list went.”

Then we had a conversation about the validity of all her reasons.

“I consciously choose not to keep my promise,” she said.

I replied, “I want you to consider something.”

“You didn’t. Your reasons did.”

“There was no consciousness involved, just some familiar conversation you’ve had hundreds of times before.”

What happened after that promise was that your reasons for why you haven’t done it so far started to grab you.

To have the power to create is to have power in your speaking. And that is only powerful if what you say you will do, you actually do.

Yes, there are moments when it won’t be possible, and that’s okay.

But it doesn’t change the fact that the degree to which you can be your word is the degree to which you hold the power to create.

Reasons don’t create the results you want. Action does.
