What does the tree think when you fail?

August 12, 2024

Did you ever ask the tree what she thinks when you fail?

Are you ruminating at night about the meaning of your failure for the tree?

How will she think of you from now on?

No?

Why so?

We understand that trees don't give meaning to things, but we do. It takes a human being to make anything mean anything. Most of us might have heard that but never considered the implications of the statement made.

Without us giving meaning to anything, nothing means anything.

Meaning is created in our thoughts and words. Meaning is created through our language.

More specifically, it is created by agreement on meaning.

If, for example, we agree that summer is better than winter, and enough people agree on that, it will now be our so-called "new reality".

Being an entrepreneur is hard; for example, it is only then a reality for you if you agree with that. It could also be the most fun thing ever (which I would agree with).

Meaning isn't inherent in things; it needs a human mind to create meaning, and we can be aware of the meaning we place on things.

This realization can be your best friend when it comes to creating and playing your game. It literally is a game as in the games we play winning and losing don't mean anything, yet still we play to win. If you think of a board game, what does it mean when you lose? Nothing. Only that you lost.

As we can get lost in the meaning we place on our performance, the game we play in life and the underlying pressure this can create, it is great to remember that the tree dosen't give meaning to our performance, she simply is as she is, as our performance is what it is.

What would the tree think can be your prompt to level the playing field if you get wrapped up in your own game, forgetting that it is one in the end.
